Orientation Program

Trainees registered fresh for the Part 1 (Primary) examination are required to attend a combined Orientation program of 3-4 days. This is a common training program for all registered candidates. Candidates are required to Register for the Orientation program and pay the fees online. Currently the fee is Rs 8500 as of March 2017 but can vary depending on venue and component costs. This fee is exclusive of candidates travel and accommodation but included the lectures, Lunch with snacks and stationary.

Purpose is to explain:

1. What this examination is about and how it is different for other critical care examinations.

2. How to go about reading and preparing notes.

3. What books and resources to use.

4. How to prepare the logbook. Various components of the logbook with do’s and don’ts.

5. Lectures are held to orient the trainee in “How to approach common problems in ICU” Topics are discussed in detail with lots of examples. Some of the topics include:

  • Approach to Arterial Blood Gas analysis,
  • Approach to electrolyte abnormalities (detailed),
  • Approach to ECG interpretation,
  • Approach to X-rays,
  • Approach to CT Scan interpretation,
  • Approach to Biochemical abnormalities,
  • Approach to Hematology/ Coagulation abnormalities

6. Trainees are oriented with the various components of the examination.

7. Trainees are instructed on “How to use the online Self Assessment modules” at www.ICUeducation.com

8. Mentorship concept is introduced and mentors assigned.

9. Trainees are instructed about the Whatsapp based discussion and communication group especially set up for that batch.

10. Answering any questions from the trainees.
