The course is 2 years duration. However, Post-graduates (MD, DNB in Medicine, Chest Medicine and Anesthesia) maybe eligible for exemption in time. Please see the “who can apply section”.
The FCCCM course of CCEF is a supervised and structured course. This means that you need to be under a recognized teacher who will supervise your training and guide you. Again, if you have been granted exemption (as a special case, eg., you are working abroad) then those rules will apply. However, you will need to complete the logbook and other requirements.
The choice of hospital to join depends on multiple factors: where you live, existing vacancy in that hospital etc. The list of hospitals is displayed and you are always free to talk to our “Career Guides”. Career Guides are Intensivists who have themselves given the Fellowship exams and are willing to discuss your particular situation if you so desire.
Contact details are available on this site collegeofcriticalcare.com
This is a common mistake made by trainees. It is almost never possible to prepare a good, passing grade logbook in a hurry of few months. Also study leave (if you are lucky to have your institute spare you for weeks or months!) are just that—study leave. So use that time to study. Remember, if you do not get at least 50% marks in logbook, you CANNOT appear for the exam. Also you will need to reapply next year with fresh fees etc.
There is a very serious shortage of trained intensivists in India. Majority of ICUs are surprisingly forced to run with non-allopathic doctors (unofficially). So as a qualified critical care specialist, its all sun-shine! Intensivists who have done this course get a better salary package too.
Our past fellows have done International fellowships in Canada and their training here was very much appreciated there. This is because, this FCCCM exam may be tougher than other exam options in India but it prepares you for the world. Also, our post MD/ DNB candidates with FCCCM got USMLE waver when they applied for international fellowship in Canada.
There are unavoidable circumstances in life all the time and the College understands that. If you have a genuine reason (eg. Post marriage shifting of residence to join spouse), then all that is required is for you to write a note explaining the circumstances and get the current teacher to sign. Also approach the new hospital willing to accept you as a candidate and take that new teachers sign too and send to the President of the College of Critical Care Medicine. This clause cannot be used to change hospitals in the same city (say, because your friend is there!)
The remuneration you receive during training and your designation is a local matter that is decides by individual institutes. So you need to discuss these terms with them. It helps to ask around and your friends doing this course maybe able to provide some information
Critical Care is a relatively new specialty and it is not surprising that all over most of the world, there is a severe shortage of structured teaching and trainers. Many of todays practicing Intensivists are actually self taught. There was a need for a platform where busy practicing doctors and students in training could come and compare there understanding of certain key ares in critical care that can be objectively assessed such as ABG interpretation, Xray interpretation, ECG/ EKG interpretation etc with that of experts in the field. While we would have loved to share this wealth of original data with the world, lots of expenses have gone into creating the site, its maintenance and upgradations. Hence a nominal subscription is charged that is valid for 1 full year.
The price of the subscription is Rs. 5000 only but for the trainees who are members of the College of Critical Care Medicine (CCEF), there is a subsidized subscription.
The site does not know that you intend to become a member of the College too. The Correct procedure for those Registering for the College membership as well as Self Assessment subscription is to FIRST become a Member of the College and only then subscribe to the Self Assessment. That way you get discounted fares.
This is a commonly faced problem that occurs because the subscriber enters hi/her first name as Dr XXYY rather than just XXYY. Its easiliy corrected by logging into the site and going to “dash Board” Go to my profle—edit profile. Remove the Dr. before first name. That’s it. Refresh as print your Membership Certificate now. You can also correct from lower case to Upper Case (the first letter of your name).
