Theory Examination

Pattern of Theory Examination in Critical Care Medicine conducted by the College of Critical Care Medicine (CCEF)

(effective for all examinations conducted after September 2014)

Common for Both Part -1 and Part-2 Examinations:

  1. .   Theory examination will be held approximately 1 month before rest of the examination (Practical Examination) and will be held one day prior to and at same venue as the mock examination/crash course.
  1. .   Each Theory examination will consist of 2 papers of 2 hours duration each.
  1.  for Both Part -1 and Part-2 Examinations: 

For Part-1 Examination 

  1. .   Each paper will consist of 4 sections as detailed below. 
  1.   Section A: 5 questions of 5 marks each. Each question should take  4-5 min to answer. 
  2.   Section B: 5 questions of 5 marks each. Each question should take  4-5 min to answer. 
  3.   Section C: 4 questions of 10 marks each. Each question should take  9-10 min to answer.
  4.  Section D: 10 MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) 1 mark each.

 Theory Paper 2

a) Neuro Critical Care

b) Renal & Metabolic Critical Care

c) Infectious Diseases

d) Critical Care Obstetrics

e) Critical Care Endocrinology

f) Ethical issues

g) Organizational & ICU Management issues

E. Approx. 30-40% of questions will cover applied physiological & Pharmacological aspects of these topics. Rest will be cover clinical aspects of Critical Care.

For Part-2 Examination 

  1. .   Each paper will consist of 4 sections as detailed below. 
  1.   Section A: 5 questions of 5 marks each. Each question should take  4-5 min to answer. 
  2.   Section B: 5 questions of 5 marks each. Each question should take  4-5 min to answer. 
  3.   Section C: 4 questions of 10 marks each. Each question should take  9-10 min to answer.

d.   Section D: 1 Question on Procedure in ICU of 10 marks
